Cholesterol Test Kit
Posted by Guy on July 15th, 2011A high cholesterol level is risky as it increases the risk of having a heart attack or stroke manifold. However, it is now easier to manage your cholesterol level, thanks to the easy availability of cholesterol test kit. Cholesterol test kit was first approved to be used publicly in 1993. Then, cholesterol test kit would only detect total cholesterol levels. However, the cholesterol test kits available these days also give the readings of HDL and LDL, triglycerides and glucose.
Having a cholesterol test kit at home is very convenient. The chemical analysis can be done simply by using some blood taken from a finger, or from the vein in the arms. Just a single drop of blood is required in the cholesterol test kit. Compare that with the big needle that will be inserted in your arm if you visit a doctor to have the same test done. Doing the test at home also saves you time, as you get the results almost instantaneously, unlike a supervised checkup, in which you might have to wait for as much as a week to get the results, often just as an excuse for you having to pay a higher amount. Thus, a cholesterol test kit is also cheaper in this regard. And you also do not need to make an appointment, or stand in a queue, or make an appointment to a doctor to get the incoherent information written on the paper that your testing lab gave you. What makes matters worse is that sometimes, the doctors own the lab or have a tie-up or agreement, which enables them to charge hefty consultation fees over and above the test fee. However, do remember that a few tests are best done at the doctor’s office. Also, if your readings are exceptionally high, consult a doctor straightway.
If you want to buy a cholesterol test kit, check out your local pharmacy to obtain the relevant information, so that you know which kit would be best for you. You can also search for the information online.
